Highveld Versatile Hunting Dog Club presents our “Battle of the Breeds” year-end function.
We’ve teamed up with the Working Spaniel Association and Transvaal Field Trial Association to bring you this fantastic event. We invite you, your dog, and your family to a day of fun and laughter!
Unfortunately, bad weather forced us to postpone this event in 2021. Still, we are excited to announce that we are going ahead with this exciting event this year on 13 November 2022.
Entries are open to members of each club. Non-competitor meals can be ordered in advance. The closing date for entries is 06 November 2022. Places usually fill up fast, so book early!
We invite spectators to join us for the day as we cheer on our brave competitors and their dogs. Please bring your own picnic basket and favourite liquid refreshment or order a meal from us. For more information, contact Petro Byleveld at 082 493 5728 or email at secretary@hvhdc.co.za / Hannes Oberholzer at 079 897 6968 or email at hannes@cfmw.biz
How does it work
Each club will host a specific test/s to be completed by all the dogs. The test/series will be designed to be doable for all breeds. Judges might have to simplify/shorten/lengthen the exercise to accommodate the other breeds. Judges will make a decision in this regard during the course setting.
We plan 8 to 10 exercises/pick-ups for the day, depending on the number of entries and time.
Each club is to enter 10 handlers and is allowed to enter 3 extra dogs that are “celebrities/non-members/other breeds”, i.e. the spaniels can ask a golden retriever to compete for them to fill up their numbers or Staffie…. These invited dogs compete alongside the “club entries” for the Battle of the Breeds award for that club.
There will be two stakes: Junior Stake for dogs under 24 months old and Advanced Stake for dogs 24 months and older.
Preferably only one entry per handler, but we are flexible to accommodate the Working Spaniel Association due to limited numbers on their side.
Handlers and dogs will run the various stations on a musical chair basis. Handlers and dogs will be mixed, e.g. 4 retrievers, 4 spaniels and 3 HPRs per station.
1st, 2nd and 3rd placings will be available in both stakes.
The grand prize will be the “Battle of the Breeds” floating trophy.
Each club will provide 2/3 judges for the day. These judges won’t be required to be KUSA judges, as it’s a fun day. The “senior / experienced judge” will remain on the club test/series while the other judge/s will be judging on another series.
The entry fee is R300, which includes lunch. Non-entrants wanting to order lunch can do so at R100 per person.
Spectators are welcome.
Funds generated in the event will be split between the 3 clubs once all costs have been covered.
